Heat pumps
Heat pumps are a type of device that takes heat out of a particular heat reservoir and transfers it to another.
The process is not complicated: when compressing a gas it heats up, however – when it is allowed to spread it cools down. The action of a heat pump actually compresses the gas so that its temperature becomes higher than the temperature of the external environment. Now being compressed- and therefore hot, there is a process of cooling of the gas by exchanging heat with the environment. The gas is then allowed to expand, thus lowering the temperature of the gas below that it had before starting the process.

A heat pump is the main and most necessary component in the mechanism of many household appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners and even more industrial appliances like water coolers, cold rooms and ice making machines. Apart from heat pumps, these devices can be found to be components that constitute aids for cold air dissipation, heat dissipation and insulation. Using heat pumps means using less energy. This is due to the fact that even in conditions of relatively low outdoor temperature, heat energy dissipated from the sun is still absorbed in the soil, air and water. The use of heat pumps allows maximum utilization of renewable energy sources that are located in our home environment and with their assistance in heating the entire home.

Furnaces that use gas or oil to burn them use a lot of energy and do not improve the quality of the environment. On the other hand, the use of heat pump technology allows great savings in energy consumption and leads to a reduction in the toxins emitted significantly. In addition, the operation of heat pumps can raise the temperature of any heat source to the desired level. Thus, heat pumps are able to significantly optimize the utilization of solar energy from the sun and increase the environmental value of heating systems of all types – even heating systems that use oil, gas or electricity.

The development of heat pumps as well as their increasing use, have a decisive and substantial impact on lifestyle and standard of living, especially in countries with hot climates. In all areas related to food preparation and storage, climatic comfort in buildings or enclosed spaces as in transportation – these areas and many others have changed thanks to the use of heat pumps. The use of heat pumps has many advantages: The most important advantage of heat pumps lies in being environmentally friendly. They consume much less electricity and this can be easily discerned by looking at the monthly electricity bills. In addition – it is a heating operation that does not harm the health of the person and is cheap, efficient and therefore economical. Swimming pools can be heated using heat pumps and it is even possible to use heat pump technology for cooling spaces and not just heating.
